Toyota Sienna vs. Honda Odyssey
Performance
- The Toyota Sienna comes standard with a 2.5-liter hybrid engine that works in tandem with permanent-magnet synchronous motors for a combined power output of 245 net horsepower. In contrast, the 2024 Honda Odyssey comes standard with a 3.5-liter V6 engine that generates 280 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 262 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,700 rpm.
- The Toyota Sienna comes standard with an Electronically controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (ECVT) for a refined ride. Most Toyota Sienna models start with a front-wheel drive drivetrain. Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive (AWD) is standard on the Woodland Edition and is available for all other Toyota Sienna models.
- In contrast, The Honda Odyssey comes with a standard 10-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. Unlike the Toyota Sienna, which has AWD as standard on the Woodland Edition and is available on all other trims, the Honda Odyssey does not have AWD on any trim.
- Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive (AWD) drives the rear wheels and distributes up to 50% of drive torque through a dedicated rear permanent-magnet electric motor. The AWD system only kicks in when needed, seamlessly shifting systems for either optimal traction or fuel economy. The Odyssey does not have an AWD drivetrain.
- The Toyota Sienna comes with Toyota’s proven hybrid technology, which includes up to 3 permanent-magnet synchronous motors powered by a sealed Nickel-Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) battery. As a hybrid vehicle, the Toyota Sienna bears a Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (SULEV) rating. Unfortunately, the Honda Odyssey does not have a hybrid option.
- Both the Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey have a max towing capacity of 3,500 lbs. Both minivans also come standard with ventilated disc brakes, Anti-lock Brake Systems (ABS), and all-season tires.

- Front-wheel drive models of the 2024 Toyota Sienna have EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings of 36/36/36 mpg (city/ highway/ combined). In contrast, the 2024 Honda Odyssey has EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings of 19/28/22 mpg (city/ highway/ combined).
- All-wheel drive models of the Toyota Sienna have EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings of 35/36/35 mpg (city/ highway/ combined). The Honda Odyssey does not have comparable AWD models, nor does it have comparable hybrid models.

Technology
- The Toyota Sienna comes standard with Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), and Road Sign Assist (RSA) as part of Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.0 (TSS 2.0). The Honda Odyssey also comes standard with adaptive cruise control, and a Traffic Sign Recognition system as part of the Honda Sensing® Driver-Assistive suite.
- Both the Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey come with navigation systems. A 3-year Dynamic Navigation trial is standard on the Sienna XSE and higher. This feature is also available for the Sienna XLE model as part of an upgrade package. Dynamic Navigation is 4G network dependent. In contrast, the Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System™ is only available on the Touring and Elite models.
- The Toyota Sienna comes standard with a 9-in. infotainment display with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility, as well as a 3-month SiriusXM® trial. In contrast, the Honda Odyssey comes standard with an 8-in. electrostatic touchscreen that also comes with Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™, and a 3-month SiriusXM® trial.
- For audio entertainment, the Toyota Sienna LE comes standard with a 6-speaker Audio system, while an 8-speaker Audio Plus system is standard on the XLE and higher trims and is optional on the Sienna LE. A 12-speaker JBL® Premium Audio system with a subwoofer and amplifier is standard on the Woodland Edition and higher and is optional on the XLE and XSE models.
- A 7-speaker audio system with a subwoofer is standard on all Honda Odyssey models except for the Elite trim. An 11-speaker Premium Audio system with a subwoofer is standard on the top-of-the-line Honda Odyssey Elite model.
- The Toyota Sienna LE comes standard with 3-zone automatic climate control, while the rest of the lineup comes standard with 4-zone automatic climate control. In contrast, the Honda Odyssey only comes standard with 3-zone automatic climate control.

- The Toyota Sienna comes standard with 10 airbags, including a driver and front passenger Advanced Airbag System; driver, front passenger, and second-row outboard seat-mounted side airbags; driver knee airbag; front passenger seat-cushion airbag and side curtain airbags. On the other hand, the Honda Odyssey comes standard with 8 airbags.
- A Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD), Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/SA), Lane Tracing Assist (LTA), and Automatic High Beams (AHB), are standard on the Toyota Sienna as part of Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.0 (TSS 2.0). The Honda Odyssey has the Honda Sensing® Driver-Assistive suite with comparable features like Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™), Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM), and Auto High-Beam Headlights.
- All Toyota Sienna models also come equipped with the Star Safety System™ which includes Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRAC), Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA) and Smart Stop Technology® (SST).
- Similarly, the Honda Odyssey has Vehicle Stability Assist™, Electronic Brake Distribution, an Anti-Lock Braking System, Brake Assist, and Traction Control. However, the Odyssey does not have a feature comparable to Toyota’s Smart Stop Technology® (SST).
- Every Toyota Sienna comes standard with a Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA). In contrast, a Blind Spot Information System (BSI) with Cross Traffic Monitor is optional on the Honda Odyssey.
- All Toyota Siennas come standard with an integrated rearview camera, but only the Sienna’s top-of-the-line Platinum model comes standard with a Panoramic View Monitor with a 360-degree Overhead View. In contrast, the Honda Odyssey only comes with a Multi-Angle Rearview Camera and does not have a 360-degree overhead view feature.
Reliability
- The Toyota Sienna’s warranty package includes a Basic Warranty for 60 months/60,000 miles, a Powertrain Warranty for 36 months/36,000 miles, a Corrosion Perforation warranty for 60 months, unlimited mileage, and a Restraint Systems Warranty for 60 months/60,000 miles. Additionally, the Toyota Sienna also comes with a Hybrid System warranty for 8 years/100,000 miles and a Hybrid Battery Warranty for 10 years/150,000 miles.
- The Honda Odyssey’s warranty package includes a New Vehicle Limited Warranty for 36 months/36,000 miles, a Powertrain Warranty for 60 months/60,000 miles, an Anti-Corrosion Warranty for 60 months, unlimited mileage, and a Seat Belt Limited Warranty for 15 years/150,000 miles. The Honda Odyssey does not have a hybrid offering, and therefore, does not come with hybrid system-related warranties.
- The Toyota Sienna comes with ToyotaCare, a maintenance plan that covers normal factory-scheduled maintenance for two years or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first. Similarly, the Honda Odyssey comes with Honda Service Pass, which covers routine maintenance for up to two years or 24,000 miles.
- The Toyota Sienna comes with 24-hour Roadside Assistance for two years and unlimited mileage. Additionally, Enhanced Roadside Assistance is also available via the 1-year Safety Connect® trial included with every Toyota Sienna. Safety Connect is 4G network dependent. Similarly, the Honda Odyssey has 24-hour emergency road assistance during the 3-year or 36,000-mile limited warranty term. Enhanced roadside assistance is available via HondaLink®.

Design
- Both the Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey can seat up to 8 people and come standard with power sliding side doors and heated power outside mirrors. However, only the Toyota Sienna has Dual Hands-free power sliding side doors, which are standard on every Toyota Sienna model except the LE. It also has optional captain’s chairs which are not available on the Odyssey.
- A power liftgate with jam protection is standard on the Toyota Sienna XLE and above, while a hands-free power liftgate is available on the XLE and higher. A power tailgate is standard on the Honda Odyssey EX-L and higher, while the Elite has a hands-free power tailgate. The base grade EX does not have an available power tailgate.
- A power tilt/slide moonroof with sunshade is available as an option for the Toyota Sienna LE, and standard on every other Sienna model. In contrast, a one-touch power moonroof with a tilt feature is standard only on the Honda Odyssey EX-L and higher. It is not available on the base grade Odyssey EX.
- The Toyota Sienna comes in 6 trim levels: the LE, the XLE, the XSE, the Woodland Edition, the Limited, and the Platinum. On the other hand, the Honda Odyssey comes in 5 trim levels: the EX, the EX-L, the Sport, the Touring, and the Elite.
- The Toyota Sienna Limited and Platinum trims come standard with heated and ventilated front seats. Additionally, the Sienna Platinum model’s second row has heated premium leather-trimmed captain’s seats as standard. In contrast, heated and ventilated front seats are only available on the Odyssey’s Elite model. None of the Honda Odyssey models have heated rear seats.
- In terms of cargo volume, the Toyota Sienna has 33.5/75.2/101 cu. ft.(behind third/second/first-row seats) of space. The Honda Odyssey has up to 38.6/92.3/158 cu. ft. (behind third/second/first-row seats) of space.

- The Toyota Sienna has an overall length of 203.7 in., a width of 78.5 in., and a height of 68.5 in. It has a wheelbase of 120.5 in. and a ground clearance of 6.37 in. (6.96 in. for the Woodland Edition).
- On the other hand, the Honda Odyssey has an overall length of 205.2 in., a width of 78.5 in., and a height of 69.6 in. It has a wheelbase of 118.1 in. Ground clearance is not listed on the Honda website.
- All Toyota Sienna models without a moonroof have a passenger volume of 162.5 cu. ft. In comparison, the Honda Odyssey has a passenger volume of 160.1 cu. ft. across all trims except the EX base trim, which has 163.6 cu. ft.

- As a hybrid, the Toyota Sienna has higher EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings compared to the Honda Odyssey. On FWD configurations, the Sienna has EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings of 36/36/36 mpg (city/ highway/ combined), while the Honda Odyssey has estimated ratings of 19/28/22 mpg (city/highway/combined).
- Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive optimizes traction for various road conditions, allowing for a more refined driving and riding experience. Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel drive is standard on the Sienna Woodland Edition and available for all other Sienna models. Unfortunately, All-wheel drive is not available on any Honda Odyssey model.
- The Toyota Sienna Platinum model has more standard features than its Honda Odyssey counterpart, the Elite. Its second row comes standard with heated premium leather-trimmed captain’s seats. It also comes equipped with a Panoramic View Monitor with a 360-degree Overhead View, and a four-zone climate control system for custom cabin comfort. The Honda Odyssey does not have these features.
- A 3-year Dynamic Navigation trial is standard on the Sienna XSE and higher. This feature is also available for the Sienna LE and XLE models as part of an upgrade package. Dynamic Navigation is 4G network dependent. In contrast, the Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System™ is only available on the Touring and Elite models.
- A rear entertainment system that includes an 11.6-in. entertainment display with HDMI input, a remote, and two wireless headphones is available as an optional upgrade on all Toyota Sienna models, except LE.
