How Does It Create Electricity?

Hydrogen from the fuel tank and air entering from the intake grille meet in the Fuel Cell Stack. Then a chemical reaction involving the oxygen and hydrogen creates electricity—powering Mirai.

How Do I Fill Up Mirai?

You use a pump and nozzle at the station. As you pump in hydrogen, it travels to carbon-fiber-reinforced fuel tanks, where it’s stored.

How Safe Is Hydrogen?

If the hydrogen sensors detect a leak or a collision, the hydrogen tank valves are designed to automatically close to prevent more hydrogen from escaping, with any leaked hydrogen returning safely to the atmosphere. Simulation shown.

Mirai’s hydrogen fuel tanks have been rigorously tested and proven to meet Global Technical Regulation No. 13.

How Much Does Hydrogen Fuel Cost?

While hydrogen fuel costs continually fluctuate, every Mirai comes with $15,000 or 6 years, whichever comes first, of complimentary fuel for purchases and $15,000 or 3 years, whichever comes first, of complimentary fuel for leases.

After your purchase or lease, we'll set you up with a fuel card so all you need to do is swipe to start filling up.
