Performance

  • The Prius L Eco has better EPA-estimated MPG ratings than the Insight.
  • Depend on the 2022 Prius LE and XLE AWD-e to help get you through iffy weather conditions.
  • The Insight does not offer all-wheel drive on any model.

When it comes to going farther without pulling up to the pump, the Prius has what it takes.

Hybrid Engine Performance

The base model L Eco has an EPA-estimated mileage of 58/53/56 (city/highway/combined). This outstanding fuel rating can't be matched by the base model Insight EX which has an EPA-estimated mileage of 55/49/52 (city/highway/combined). What's even more impressive than the fuel economy of the 2022 Prius is its surprising drivetrain options. The Prius has available AWD-e models, which can help in snowy and rainy weather at speeds up to 43 mph. The Insight doesn't have AWD-e available.

When you want to pick up the pace, the Prius has 121 hybrid system net horsepower, and the Insight has a total system horsepower of 151.

More Interior Space and Connectivity Options

If you're searching for more cargo volume, the Prius' unique shape provides plenty of room. It has an EPA cargo volume up to 27.4 cu.ft. with the seats up. The Honda Insight only has a cargo volume up to 15.1 cu.ft.

The Prius will hook you up to all the media apps. All models of the Prius have standard Android Auto™, Apple CarPlay®, and Amazon Alexa compatibility, plus a SiriusXM® 3-month Platinum Plan trial subscription. The Insight has Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay® integration, as well as a trial of SiriusXM® on all models. However, it lacks Amazon Alexa.

Having a large and intuitive touchscreen to display all of these connectivity options is important. The base model Prius has a 7-in. touchscreen. You can also get an 11.6-in. touchscreen standard in the Prius Limited. All models of the Insight only have an 8-in. touchscreen.

Reliability

  • You won't have to worry about forgetting regular maintenance with the Prius' ToyotaCare plan.
  • Both hybrids come with 24/7 roadside assistance.
  • The Prius L Eco was rated the third Best Hybrid Car Under $30,000 according to KBB®.

From safety ratings to maintenance that will help keep your car running smoothly, the Prius is a hybrid that you can rely on.

Covering All Your Bases

One of the great things about the Prius and the Toyota brand is ToyotaCare. This factory-scheduled maintenance plan comes on all Prius models. It lasts for 2 years or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first. Roadside Assistance is also included for 2 years and unlimited mileage. HondaCare is the similar maintenance service for Insight drivers but is not included with a purchase of a new vehicle. This additional service costs extra depending on the plan you buy. You do get roadside assistance included for 3 years/36,000 miles.

Both the 2021 Prius and Insight received 5-star Overall Safety Ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The 2022 models have not yet been rated.

Know that you're getting the best with the Toyota Prius L Eco, which ranked ahead of the Insight in the Kelley Blue Book® 10 Best Hybrid Cars Under $30,000. The Prius L Eco came in third, and the Insight just barely made the list coming in ninth.
